When you first log into your Microsoft account, you will be brought to a screen that states Let's keep your account secure.
To start the MFA set-up process, click Next.
The next screen allows you to set up MFA using one of three different methods:
To use the Microsoft Authenticator app, click Download now
To use another authenticator app, click I want to use a different authenticator app
To receive codes to your phone number via SMS, click I want to set up a different method
Follow the setup instructions below based on the method of your choice.
Note - If you do not receive the Let's keep your account secure notification, go to https://mysignins.microsoft.com/security-info, make sure you are logged in with your SSE Riga account and click on Add sign-in method.
On the following screen, select one of the following options:
To use the Microsoft Authenticator app, choose Microsoft Authenticator and select Download now
To use another authenticator app, choose Microsoft Authenticator and select I want to use a different authenticator app
To receive codes to your phone number via SMS, choose Phone
Follow the setup instructions below based on the method of your choice.
Clicking Download Now will bring you to a Microsoft page with instructions on how to set up the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device.
After setting up the app on your mobile device, return to the MFA setup page and click Next.
The next screen informs you that you will want to allow notifications on your phone device. These notifications will be necessary for you to authenticate. Click Next.
Open the Microsoft Authenticator app that you've downloaded on your mobile device.
In the application, select Add account or click the Scan QR code button.
Scan the QR activation code displayed on your screen. You will see a notification Account added successfully in the app.
Click Next.
Once Microsoft Authenticator is connected to your account, you will be sent a test notification on your mobile device. Microsoft Authenticator uses two-digit "number matching" as part of their authentication process.
From your mobile device, enter the two-digit numerical code and tap Yes.
You will see confirmation on your computer, as well as your personal phone device, that the notification has been approved. Click Next.
Your Multi-Factor Authentication setup is now complete. Click Done to continue signing into your Microsoft account.
Click I want to use a different authenticator app.
On the next screen, you will be asked to open your authenticator app on your mobile device and select the option to add a new account.
The specific steps to add a new account in your authenticator app might differ based on the app.
Click Next.
On the next screen, you will be provided a QR code. Scan the QR code using the authenticator app on your phone.
Confirm that your SSE Riga Microsoft account has been added to your authenticator app account list.
When you have scanned the code and added the new account to your authenticator app, click Next.
On the next screen, enter the 6-digit code shown in your authenticator app and click Next.
Your Multi-Factor Authentication setup is now complete. Click Done to continue signing into your Microsoft account.
Click I want to set up a different method.
In the pop-up windows select Phone.
On the next screen, select your Country code and provide your Phone number.
Select Receive and a code and click Next.
On the next screen, enter the 6-digit code you received in a text message.
The message will be sent within a few seconds to your phone as an SMS message from Microsoft.
Click Next.
Your Multi-Factor Authentication setup is now complete. Click Next and then Done to continue signing into your Microsoft account.
