Announcements forum


Announcements is a way to share general news and course announcements with students. A course can have only one Announcements activity.

This activity is automatically created in each course page. By default, Announcements forum is placed at the top of the page and only teachers, TAs and administration can post in it. Announcements has forced subscription set by default. It means that all enrolled students will receive an email when a new post is added in the Announcements forum.

When a new post is published it is sent to SSE Riga email addresses of all enrolled students after a 30 minute delay. You can use this delay time to edit and make changes to the post before it is sent to student emails. If necessary you can also skip the delay time and send emails immediately.

To post a new topic in Announcements forum:

  • Click on Announcements

  • In Announcements forum click Add discussion topic

  • Enter the Subject and the Message of your post

  • If you want to add attachment or send emails immediately, click on Advanced at the bottom of the page. To add a file to the post upload a file either by using file icon or by dragging and dropping a file to Attachment. To send emails immediately, tick the Send forum post notifications with no editing-time delay checkbox located at the bottom of the page.

  • To post a topic in the forum, click Post to forum.
