Multi-Factor Authentication or MFA, also known as 2-Step Verification, helps protect your account from unauthorised access due to a compromised password.
With MFA enabled, if your password is leaked, guessed, or stolen, an attacker will not be able to sign in without an additional proof of identity, which only you can obtain via your own device (phone, computer, security key, etc.).
When you enable Multi-Factor Authentication, you add an extra layer of security to your account. You sign in with something you know (your password) and something you have (your phone).
Multi-Factor Authentication is mandatory and enabled by default for all SSE Riga Google, Microsoft and E-Learning platform accounts.
Your SSE Riga Google account requires that you set up Multi-Factor Authentication before you can start using it.

You will receive an email message to the email address of your E-Learning account with a 6-digit code.

Optionally, if you are using a personal device you own or trust, you can check Trust this device.
You will need to pass Multi-Factor Authentication whenever you try to access your SSE Riga account on a new device or a device you haven't recently signed in from.
No. If you are on a device you own or trust, you will have an option "Don't ask again on this device" or similar. Doing this will mean you won't have to pass Multi-Factor Authentication on that device again.
Do not select this option if you are on a public or otherwise untrusted device.
No, your password will stay the same.
During the setup process, you will receive backup codes that you can save and use when you don't have your phone. You can learn more about using backup codes here.
You can also contact SSE Riga IT Support, who can help you retrieve your backup codes or assist with passing Multi-Factor Authentication for your account.
Multi-Factor Authentication is available for most websites and apps that work with user data, such as Apple, Microsoft, Facebook etc.
You can check if the platforms you are using offer Multi-Factor Authentication at 2FA Directory - https://2fa.directory/.
