Enabling IMAP

You can retrieve your Gmail messages with e-mail client or device that supports IMAP*, like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. To set up an e-mail client, first follow the steps here then move on to steps written in e-mail clients.

To enable IMAP and allow e-mail clients to gain access to your SSE Riga Gmail account:

  • Sign in to your SSE Riga Gmail account here: http://mail.sseriga.edu
  • Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of Gmail page and select Settings.
  • Click on the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  • In the IMAP Access section click Enable IMAP.
  • Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

You can now set up your e-mail client and start receiving mail from your SSE Riga e-mail account.

*Internet message access protocol (IMAP) lets you download messages from Gmail so you can access your e-mail with a program like Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail. IMAP syncs the actions you take in Microsoft Outlook or Apple Mail with Gmail. So if you delete a message in your e-mail client, it will be deleted in Gmail as well.
