What is 2-Step Verification?

2-Step Verification helps protect your account from unauthorized access due to a compromised password. Even if your password is cracked, guessed, or otherwise stolen, an attacker can't sign in without a verification code, which only you can obtain via your own device (phone, computer, security key etc.).

When you enable 2-Step Verification, you add an extra layer of security to your account. You sign in with something you know (your password) and something you have (a code sent to your phone).

2-Step Verification (generally called multi-factor authentication) is available for most other social platforms that contain your sensitive data such as Apple, Microsoft, Facebook etc.

When do I need to enter a verification code?

When enabled, you will need to pass 2-step verification whenever you try to access your SSE Riga Google account on a new device or a device you haven't recently signed in from.

Do I need to enter a code every time I sign in?

If you are on a device you own or trust, on the sign in page you can check the option "Don't ask again on this device" and you won't have to pass 2-step verification on that device again. Do not select this option if you are on a public or otherwise un-trusted device.

Will my password change?

No, your password will stay the same.

What if I don't have my mobile phone when I need to sign in or I have trouble with the codes?

During the setup process, you will receive codes that you can save and use when you don't have your phone. You can learn more about using backup codes here. Otherwise, you can contact IT Support, who can help you retrieve your backup codes or temporarily disable 2-Step Verification for your account.

What are authentication apps?

If you set up 2-Step Verification, you can use authentication apps, like the Google Authenticator app, to receive codes even if you don’t have an Internet connection or mobile service.
