Dealing with Spam

One of the most common ways accounts get compromised is by trusting and interacting with fraudulent email messages or spam. Being aware of possible email threats is important to staying safe.

Exercise caution when reading your emails and communicating with your contacts. There are less sophisticated spam email messages that are almost always automatically flagged and filtered. But there are also more sophisticated and targeted email messages that include personal information to land more credibility to the email message.

Password Security

• Regularly (at least once a year) review passwords that you have saved automatically in your SSE Riga Google account (and private Google accounts as well). Make sure you do not save your SSE Riga account passwords in a private Google account and vice versa.

• Use Password Managers to generate and encrypt unique passwords. Your Google account also includes a password manager, available at https://passwords.google.com/.

• Do not reuse passwords for multiple different websites or platforms.

• Regularly review if your personal information has been compromised using trusted security advisories like https://haveibeenpwned.com/.

2-Step Verification

2-Step Verification helps protect your account from unauthorized access due to a compromised password. Even if your password is cracked, guessed, or otherwise stolen, an attacker can't sign in without a verification code, which only you can obtain via your own device (phone, computer, security key etc.).

You should set up 2-Step Verification for your private accounts (email, social media platforms etc.) as well.

VPN

When working from home, during trips abroad or generally whenever security is a concern, you are encouraged to use SSE Riga VPN network connection.
